Choosing a provider

The US Embassy in Ireland deliberately does not endorse any provider — every legitimate J1 runs through a State Department–designated sponsor, which you can verify on j1visa.state.gov. The Irish market is small and mature (a handful of well-known providers, ~€99–199 deposits, 3-step installments, January hiring fairs in Dublin), but 2020 proved even a household name can collapse mid-season — so before paying, get in writing: the full cost breakdown (program fee, SEVIS $35, MRV $185, flights), what happens to your money on a visa refusal, and what protection applies if the provider itself fails. Self-placement (finding your own job, vetted by the sponsor) is allowed and usually ~€200 cheaper. Note the banned-job categories: office admin, degree-related internships, commission-only sales, farm work and hazardous roles don't qualify — and you'll work at least 32 hours/week.
